Daily Geist has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it makes no network connections. It stores four things on your device only, using the iPhone's standard app storage: your language choice, which bites you have seen, which bites you have pocketed, and whether the daily reminder is on. We cannot see this data. Deleting the app deletes it.
The daily reminder is a local notification that your iPhone schedules itself. No push service is involved and nothing is sent to us.
Apple handles downloads, updates and any crash or usage statistics you choose to share with developers in your iPhone settings. That processing is Apple's, under Apple's privacy policy.
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you open a page, Vercel processes your IP address and technical request data in server logs to deliver the page and keep the service secure. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in a secure, working website). Vercel acts as our processor under a data processing agreement; transfers to the USA rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party fonts or scripts.
If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you, and delete them when the matter is closed unless the law requires us to keep them. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR.
You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to complain to a supervisory authority, for example the Sächsische Datenschutz- und Transparenzbeauftragte in Dresden.
Daily Geist is a free educational tool for reading and learning about the works of German philosophers. The explanations and everyday tips are our own interpretations, offered for learning; they are not academic, medical, legal or financial advice. We check every quote against its first edition, but mistakes can happen; please tell us if you find one.
All quoted German texts are taken from first editions whose authors died more than 70 years ago, and are in the public domain. Plain text was read via the Deutsches Textarchiv (Text nach der Erstausgabe, via Deutsches Textarchiv) and from digitised copies of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek on the Internet Archive. No scans or page images are used in the app. Each bite names its work, year and page.
The translations (English, Traditional Chinese, Korean), explanations, tips, line portraits and idea drawings are original work, © 2026 Chan Nam Ao. The portraits are our own line drawings, not traced from paintings or photographs.
Daily Geist is an independent project and is not affiliated with the Deutsches Textarchiv, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek or the Internet Archive.
